Assessment of Student Learning Process and Plan

The Assessment Committee membership includes faculty members from across the academic divisions, an academic dean, Director of Institutional Planning, Research and Grants and the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. Two faculty members serve as co-chair of the committee.

The major role of the Assessment Committee is to support program faculty in assessing student learning with the ultimate goal of improving student learning. The committee has done, and continues to do this by helping faculty to develop workable timelines for assessment and by providing resources that are specific to the institution as well as providing more general resources. These resources include:

  • A comprehensive form for the annual program assessment plan and report is available
  • Assessment Resource Person (Assessment Committee Member) is assigned to assist a particular division.
  • Feedback to help improve program assessment processes is available at:
  • Rubrics to measure the CORE outcomes are available
  • Student sample materials for practice with the CORE rubrics are available
  • Training and Discussion sessions for use of the CORE rubrics are held to support faculty in assessing the CORE foci of a given academic year.
  • General assessment information from the Higher Learning Commission and other sources is made available on the college’s Intranet.
  • New faculty members are orientated to the assessment process by the Assessment Committee Co‐Chairs.

The Assessment Committee chairs provide a monitoring report that is submitted to the College’s Board of Trustees on an annual basis.
