Placement
Testing
If you are
a new student entering Clark State for the first time, you most
likely will be required to take the COMPASS placement test. The
COMPASS placement test will assess your skill levels in reading,
writing and mathematics based on your major to be pursued at
Clark State.
- View COMPASS sample questions.
If you have taken either the ACT or SAT within the past three years and have
received the appropriate scores, you may be excused from the placement test.
(Please see the College Catalog for appropriate
scores.)
If you test below a given skill level, you may be required to take a college
preparatory education (CPE) course. College preparatory education courses are
designed to build skills so that you'll succeed in
college-level classes.
There is no fee for the initial COMPASS placement test. You should plan on
two to three hours to complete the entire test. The COMPASS placement testing
lab is located in the Sara T. Landess Technology & Learning Center, Room 117. Testing hours are Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. If you have
any questions about the placement testing, please call us at 937/328-6049. Most often, placement test scores will remain valid for three years.
If
you are required to take at least one college preparatory education class,
you may be eligible for Student Support Services.
Minority students
are encouraged to visit Minority
Affairs for placement testing assistance.
If you
have a documented disability (either a physical or learning disability) and
need special accommodations for taking the placement test, please make prior
arrangements with the disability service advisor at 937/328-6019.
