Computer and Business Training

Check out our noncredit computer and business classes! Continuing Education offers a number of classes and is committed to serving the needs of today’s learner. We bring college and community together to provide high-quality, practical educational services to help fulfill career and personal goals. We deliver an array of innovative classes in a variety of formats, from one-hour classes to eight-week intensive workshops.

All computer courses are hands-on workshops held in a computer lab. There is a required minimum as well as a maximum class size.

Introduction to Using Personal Computers

This course is for those with minimal experience with computers. It will include:

  • An overview of personal computers
  • Working in Windows XP
  • Working with Microsoft Office software
  • An overview of the Internet
  • Other ways to use Personal Computers

Enrollment is limited to 8 participants.

Fee: $129 (Includes material fee of $20)

Microsoft Basic Word 2007

The focus of this class is on learning the document window and its functions. Topics include:

  • Open, close and save documents
  • Basic editing, such as cut, copy, paste and move
  • Keyboard shortcuts
  • Work in two or more documents simultaneously
  • Enhance a document’s appearance by adding graphics and using various formatting tools

Fee: $129 (Includes material fee of $20)

Microsoft Intermediate Word 2007

Learn more about word. (Recommended prerequisite: Basic Word or equivalent.) Topics include:

  • Review keyboard shortcuts
  • Manipulate font size, color and placement
  • Change margins
  • Bullet and number text
  • Set and use tabs
  • Add columns to documents
  • Letterhead design

Fee: $129 (Includes material fee of $20)

Microsoft Basic Excel 2007

Learn to use Excel to organize and maintain numerical and text data in spreadsheets. Topics include:

  • Creating, formatting and modifying a worksheet
  • Performing calculations
  • Number formats, merge cells and applying formats
  • Create simple charts
  • Developing a workbook

Microsoft Intermediate Excel 2007

A continuation of Basic Excel. (Recommended prerequisite: Basic Excel or equivalent.) Topics include:

  • Creating complex charts
  • Creating and applying charts
  • Working with graphics
  • Calculations and formulas
  • Sorting and filtering data
  • Exporting data

Fee: $129 (Includes material fee of $20)

Microsoft Basic Access 2007

Access is a database management package that is an ideal tool for organizing and presenting data. Topics include:

  • Introduction to database management
  • Adding and deleting records
  • Sorting and updating records
  • Running reports
  • Creating and modifying tables
  • Examining table relationships
  • Querying the database
  • Creating and designing forms
  • Creating and modifying reports

Microsoft Intermediate Access 2007

A continuation of Basic Access. (Recommended prerequisite: Basic Access or equivalent.) Topics include:

  • Database planning
  • Data normalization
  • Creating a new database with tables
  • Using wizards
  • Controlling and streamlining data entry
  • Finding and joining data
  • Creating flexible queries
  • Customizing reports
  • Creating mailing labels

Keyboarding Basics (Online Course)

Using the computer software program FasType for Windows, you will learn the basic skills of touch-typing. If you already know how to type, this course will help you to improve your typing speed and accuracy. When finished with the course, continue to use FasType for Windows to improve your keyboarding skills with its intermediate and advanced lessons.

QuickBooks 2007

Learn the basics of this powerful financial management program for small businesses. This class will include:

  • Steps of creating a new company
  • working with lists/reports/graphs
  • Setting up accounts and lists for automated transactions
  • Preparing invoices / making deposits / printing statements
  • Inventory management
  • How to customize the software for specific needs

Creating Web Pages (Online Course)

Learn how to design, create, and post your very own site on the Internet’s World Wide Web. Discover low-cost marketing techniques and search engine strategies.
