Arts and
Sciences
The Associate
of Arts and the Associate of Science degrees are designed for students
whose primary goal is to transfer to a four-year college or university
after attending Clark State.
Many students
who attend Clark State Community College plan to pursue career
fields that require more than two years of college. The Associate
of Arts and Associate of Science degrees are designed to allow
students flexibility in developing a program that meets their
future educational goals. Clark State has developed university
parallel transfer degrees through articulation agreements with
most four-year colleges and universities in the area. Areas of
study at the college include English, mathematics, arts and humanities,
social and behavioral sciences, and natural and physical sciences.
In cooperation with local four-year colleges and universities, the College has designed a Teacher Education Transfer Concentration for those students interested in pursuing a career in elementary or secondary education. When followed in coordination with the intended transfer institution, this program prepares students for transfer into a bachelor's degree teacher education program.
In cooperation
with local law enforcement agencies, the State of Ohio and the
Ohio Peace Officers' Training Council, the College offers the
Basic Peace Officer Training Academy. This is the state-certifying
academy mandated by the Ohio Peace officer Training Council.
The Criminal
Justice program provides students with a contemporary curriculum
that is responsive to our ever-changing society that demands
highly educated and well-qualified candidates to meet the increasing
standards of a variety of peace officer agencies.
The Corrections
major of the Criminal Justice degree program offers the student
a broad overview of the correctional system. The program prepares
students for immediate employment in federal, state and local
correctional facilities. Graduates may expect to qualify for
entry-level positions as corrections officers, parole officers
and probation officers as well as investigators and youth counselors.
Our Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees can be enhanced with the Honors Concentration. This designation recognizes students who complete more in-depth course work, enroll in Honors courses and maintain an Honors level GPA. In addition to the traditional Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees, the Arts and Sciences Division also coordinates a one-year Photography certificate for students with personal or professional interests in photography.
