Health and
Human Services
If you are interested in an exciting and meaningful career in
health or human services, consider a course of study at Clark State
Community College.
The health care industry provides limitless opportunities
for employment and educational growth. Clark State's health-related
programs are all approved by the appropriate accrediting agencies
and are among the finest in the State of Ohio. Graduates of these
programs are prepared to take the appropriate state licensing
or certification exams. We attribute that success to outstanding
faculty
members dedicated to delivering the highest quality of instruction.
Emergency
medical services are expanding rapidly with more opportunities
developing for emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics.
Clark State offers a two-year associate degree and several certification
programs. The certification courses may be taken separately or
in conjunction with the associate degree program.
The Multi-Skilled Health Care certificate program is designed for students who desire an entry-level position in health care. The program provides an introduction to the health care environment and training in several health care skills. Upon completion of the certificate, students will have the skills needed to obtain employment in a variety of health care settings.
Medical Laboratory
Technician (MLT) students complete a two-year program of study
that prepares them to enter a challenging career
in a medical laboratory. All MLT courses are composed of an online
lecture component and supervised lab component, which may be held
at the College or an off-site approved lab. In addition,
supervised directed practice experiences in approved laboratories
are provided.
Programs of study leading to certificates and degrees in nursing
are also offered. There is great demand for entry into these programs
due to the current nursing shortage.
A one-year Practical Nursing Certificate program is offered. Graduates
of this program are eligible to apply to take the national exam
to obtain state authorization to practice as a licensed practical
nurse (LPN).
Two-year associate degree Registered Nursing (RN) programs are
also offered. Graduates of these programs find career opportunities
as registered nurses in hospitals, extended care facilities, clinics
and comparable health care agencies. Both day and evening programs
are offered. Advanced placement in the Registered Nursing program
is available for students who are licensed practical nurses. The
traditional classroom components of all courses in the curriculum
are also offered in an online format.
In addition, the College offers a Nurse Aide Training course.
Upon completion of this course, students are eligible to take a
state
exam and seek employment as a state tested nurse aide (STNA).
The associate degree Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program
combines online instruction with college lab and clinical learning
experiences to prepare graduates to provide treatment to clients
under the direction of a physical therapist. Graduates are prepared
to function in a variety of arenas including inpatient, outpatient
and home health settings
The Social Services major prepares students to be employed as
entry-level professionals in public, private and voluntary social
services agencies. Areas of employment include alcohol and drug
treatment, children's services, juvenile services, mental health,
mental retardation and developmental disabilities and public assistance.
The Early Childhood Education program prepares individuals for
employment in licensed child care centers, nursery schools, hospitals,
group homes, children's homes and other programs concerned with
the well-being, development and education of the infant, toddler,
preschool child and the school-aged child enrolled in a child care
program. There are two options of study in the program. The Early
Childhood Education option enables graduates to work with children,
helping them develop into the whole productive persons they are
meant to be. The Early Childhood Education Administration option
will prepare the graduate to be endorsed as a director of a preschool/child
care center. Two certificates in this field have added extra opportunities to students interested in gaining specialized knowledge.
The Early Elementary Paraprofessional program prepares individuals for employment as educational paraprofessionals in a variety of school settings. Graduates of the program will have knowledge of elementary education theory, best practices and educational standards.
Each of the certificate areas can lead to an associate degree
opportunity. Many of the associate degree programs can
also lead to a baccalaureate degree from one of many four-year
colleges and universities in the area.
Clark State Health and Human Services Division is on the cutting
edge of technology, offering students the newest career options
available in the field.
