Firefighter Certification

Firefighter Level I

The Firefighter Level I course provides basic and intermediate instruction in the following areas:

  • fire
  • suppression
  • fire chemistry
  • fire behavior
  • rescues
  • firefighting tools
  • appliances
  • equipment
  • built-in fire suppression systems
  • firefighter safety, rescue and survival

This 120-hour course also includes a live fire evolution at class completion, a 16-hour emergency vehicle operation course and meets NFPA Standard 1451 and 1002.

Minimum Requirements
Candidates must submit proof of completion of IS-100 and IS-700 National Incident Management System available from Federal Emergency Management.

CEVO (Certified Emergency Vehicle Operations) 16-hour Driver Certification (if needed): $60 (includes book and certification). Total driving time must be completed in home department before final certification.

Firefighter Level II

Clark State’s Firefighter Level II class builds on Level I training, with advanced instruction in:

  • fire suppression
  • fire chemistry and fire behavior
  • rescue
  • firefighting tools
  • appliances and equipment
  • built-in fire suppression systems
  • firefighter safety and survival
  • 16-hour Haz-Mat Operations level for the First Responder.

The 120-hour Firefighter Level II course includes an 8-hour CEVO (Certified Emergency Vehicle Operations) course that meets NFPA 1451 and 1002 standard.

Minimum Requirements
Firefighter Level I card. Candidates must submit proof of completion of IS-100 and IS-700 National Incident Management System available from Federal Emergency Management.

Volunteer Firefighter With Haz-Mat Awareness

This course provides both the 36-hour firefighter training along with a 6-hour Hazardous Material Awareness course. It meets the Division of Public Safety 36-hour firefighter requirements.

The firefighter training curriculum includes:

  • introduction safety
  • fire behavior
  • protective equipment
  • ladders and rescue

Minimum Requirements
Candidates must submit proof of completion of IS-100 and IS-700 National Incident Management System available from Federal Emergency Management.

Fee: $385

Firefighter Level I Transition

The 84-hour course will build upon the basic skills taught in the 36-hour Volunteer Firefighter course and completes the Level I requirements, including the final live burn evolution. This course meets the State of Ohio Division of Public Safety 84-hour Firefighter Recommended Hours Guide. CEVO (Certified Emergency Vehicle Operations) included.

Minimum Requirements
Valid 36-hour Volunteer. Candidates must submit proof of completion of IS-100 and IS-700 National Incident Management System available from Federal Emergency Management.

Fee: $595

Fire Safety Inspector PSS Certified

Students will gain the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to conduct fire safety inspections. Students will be introduced to various codes needed to develop a working knowledge of the inspection process. This course meets the requirements for the Fire Safety Inspector as required in H.B. 590.

Prerequisites

  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time of registration
  • Employed by a fire department in the State of Ohio
  • Employment verification form with chief's signature
  • Haz-Mat Awareness-level trained
  • Must be high school graduate or have GED
  • Proof of NIMS I-100
  • Proof of NIMS I-700
  • State of Ohio Certified Firefighter
