Springfield News-Sun Scholarship

Purpose

  • To assist nontraditional students in their studies at Clark State
  • To assist economically disadvantaged individuals in the College service area
  • To aid in the retention of students at Clark State

Award

  • Multiple awards of up to $3,000 annually for new and continuing scholarships, up to a total of $15,000 annually for all awards
  • Scholarships may be applied to tuition fees, books and essential supplies each quarter the student is enrolled, up to $3,000 per year per student

Funding

  • The scholarship amounts awarded will be recovered in free advertising for Clark State in the News-Sun; the amount of free advertising will not exceed the actual amount of scholarship awards in a given year
  • The amount of free advertising will be computed on a semi-annual basis (January-June and July-December), not to exceed $7,500 in either half-year; the amount of free advertising will not exceed the amount of advertising purchased and paid by the College during the same half-year
  • Clark State will send an annual report to the News Sun by July 31 detailing the previous year's News-Sun Scholarship awards and corresponding advertising

Eligibility

  • Recipients must be enrolled in a technical or transfer degree program
  • Preference will be given to students who have not previously been to college
  • Financial need will be a significant consideration
  • Recipient may apply for renewal until 90 credit hours have been completed
  • Recipients must be enrolled for a minimum of six credit hours during any quarter that the scholarship is applied. Students who miss two consecutive quarters of enrollment will lose their eligibility
  • Recipients must maintain a 2.0 grade point average to remain eligible for the scholarship

Application process for first consideration
Submit completed financial aid forms, scholarship application, copy of tax forms and current transcript to the Financial Aid Office by 5 p.m., the last Friday in March.

Selection process

  • Applications will be screened by the Scholarship Committee
  • Late or incomplete applications will not be considered
  • All decisions of the scholarship Committee are final
