Hazardous Materials Operations Level Training

Practicing safe techniques for controlling hazardous run-off by using proper diking, damming, underflow and overflow dams.

This is a six-hour class that reviews and practices run-off control. The class will include a short “in-class” lecture, followed by practicing several techniques in controlling run-off. It is the hope that all persons participating will understand and be able to practice safe techniques that will allow a hazardous operationally trained individual ways to control and isolate hazardous run-off without being involved in the project.

Requirements
Any person attending must be trained to the level of Operations in Hazardous Materials per 1710.120 of the ORC. Either a certified card or letter from your department chief will be needed.

Clothing
The attendee will need to be prepared to operate in a wet and muddy environment. Please dress appropriately. Work gloves will be required.

Haz-Mat continuing education units will be issued for the class.

Hazardous Materials Technician

This 44-hour course meets the professional qualification and competences of NFPA 472 and OSHA Hazwoper requirements. Course curriculum can be customized with your facility pictures and property layouts in hands-on drills and scenarios. Course includes books, individual training suits and gloves. Course culminates in a final drill, testing student application of tactics and concepts learned.

Prerequisite: Hazardous Materials Operations level

Cost: $300

On Scene Incident Commander Hazardous Materials

This 24-hour course meets OSHA 1910.120(q)(6)(A-F) requirements for incident commanders who will assume control of the incident scene beyond the first responder awareness Level.

Incident commanders who take charge of a hazardous materials incident shall receive 24 hours of training equal to the first responder operations level and also have competency in the following areas and the employer shall so certify:

  • Know and be able to implement the employer's incident command system.
  • Know how to implement the employer's emergency response plan.
  • Know and understand the hazards and risks associated with employees working in chemical protective clothing.
  • Know how to implement the local emergency response plan.
  • Know the state emergency response plan and the federal emergency response plan.
  • Know and understand the importance of decontamination procedures.

Prerequisite: Must have current First Responder Hazardous Materials Operations level, Nims I-100, 200, 300 and 700
