Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center
Clark State broke ground on a new downtown Springfield facility on June 16, 2010, that will meet the growing needs of the arts, education and business communities. The Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center will be named for Jane B. Hollenbeck, a well-known local arts philanthropist and artist.
Building highlights…
- The location on Limestone Street, between the Performing Arts Center and the Courtyard by Marriott, provides many opportunities for downtown businesses to utilize the facility and to provide services to events held there.
- With 27,000 square feet and the highest possible degree of functional flexibility in building design, the Center will meet a wide variety of needs for business, arts, outreach, education and social functions.
- The elegant one-story 18-foot tall Grand Hall will be housed in the west wing and will accommodate up to 500 people at round tables for a meeting, dinner or performance. The heart of the Center, it will bear the names of the Dr. Nicholas and Mrs. Thalia Pavlatos family, who stepped forward with a leadership gift.
- The east wing will house conference break-out rooms, classrooms and labs on two floors. These rooms can be booked together or separately.
- The two wings are connected by an atrium that will provide a beautiful reception area for guests.
- A lovely landscaped courtyard and pavilion will welcome visitors before, during and after events.
- Classrooms on the second floor will accommodate traditional and new media visual arts programs for career preparation or personal fulfillment. These classes will create new foot traffic downtown, and benefit retail stores and restaurants.
- The second floor will also provide a permanent home for the Center’s arts outreach programs, including Project Jericho, to make the arts accessible to youth in the community.
Project funding…
In support of this project, the Clark State Foundation led a campaign to raise the public and private funds necessary to construct the facility. As one element of that fundraising, a grant was secured from The Kresge Foundation, making Clark State the sixth community college in the country and the only organization in Clark County to ever receive one. The $850,000 grant was matched with generous gifts from our community. Andy Bell, Clark State Board of Trustees Chairman and Foundation Board member, chaired the fundraising campaign, along with Honorary Co-Chairs Linda and Harry Egger.
The entire cost of the building has been secured through a combination of public and private support.

Bringing communities together…
The Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center will enable business, arts, education and the community to share common space - and be stronger and more creative as a result.
- This community project will enhance downtown revitalization. It is an investment in the future of our downtown and our community.
- It underscores Clark State’s commitment to downtown redevelopment and will serve as the southern anchor to a new arts and park district.
- The facility will meet the conference, trade and professional development needs so often requested by area businesses and organizations.
- It solves the problems associated with limited performance space. The Grand Hall provides a venue for intimate performances and rehearsals, and as a result, Kuss Auditorium will be more available.
- The facility will be the permanent home for arts education and outreach programs in a location that is accessible to large numbers of at-risk populations.
- This opportunity brought $850,000 in funding from the Kresge Foundation to our community.
