Clark State Joins New Athletic ConferenceClark State Community College has joined the newly formed Ohio Collegiate Athletic Conference (OCAC) as an inaugural member. This new conference, set to officially begin in the Fall of 2009, was created in partnership with Clark State Community College, Ohio Christian University, The Ohio State University – Mansfield, The Ohio State University – Marion, Southern State Community College, Temple Baptist College, University of Cincinnati - Clermont and World Harvest Bible College. The OCAC was started to allow its members to compete against schools that were similar in size, resources and competitive level. Prior to joining the OCAC, Clark State was part of the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) and competed against schools that were much larger. "The Clark State Eagles have been competing against teams from schools that are double and triple our size," said Ronald Gordon, athletic director, Clark State Community College. "Joining this conference will allow local players to find success at Clark State and open the door for them to transfer to four-year universities as well-rounded student athletes." "Clark State Community College is proud to have been instrumental in the establishment of this exciting new athletic conference for select Ohio colleges and universities, and we look forward to the increased level of competition and engagement for our student athletes," said David Devier, vice president of academic and student affairs, Clark State Community College. "Southern State Community College joined the conference because the coaching and athletic skill levels of our athletic department are similar to the other institutions," said Jim Winner, athletic director, Southern State Community College. "Travel distances are manageable and philosophy of sports program roles at the colleges emphasize the same goals." MEDIA CONTACT: |
