Court Reporting Alumnus Published

Published: 9/14/2011

Recently Clark State Community College alumnus Lisa Youngblut reflected on a memorable experience that happened during her career as a court reporter. She submitted her story to the Journal of Court Reporting, and it was published in the September 11 issue. Below is an excerpt of her story.

My Veterans History Project by Lisa Yungblut

One of the most enjoyable experiences of my 20-plus court reporting career was done gratis on Saturday, May 21, 2011. May 21 was Armed Forces Day. The following weekend was Memorial Day. It was the perfect time to remember our veterans, and I did so by participating in the Veterans History Project.

This was the first time that I had transcribed a veteran’s story, and I was privileged to be present in the room with the interviewer and interviewee. I was also lucky enough to do this at my alma mater, Clark State Community College, at their newest facility in Beavercreek, Ohio, with several of my colleagues and past classmates.

I sat for four interviews, two Marine and two Army veterans. They are all Vietnam veterans and one is also a Gulf War veteran. Some accounts were humorous, and some were touching, and all had a lot of emotion. The strongest feeling conveyed by all four was that their experiences, some good and a lot of bad, made them much better people in the end and they would gladly do it all over again.
