Online Learning

Think you're too busy with job and family responsibilities to attend classes? Clark State's online courses are designed for students with busy schedules. Online students "attend" class anytime and anywhere they have Internet access...at home, work, Clark State computer labs, even the local coffee shop! Almost half of the students enrolled at Clark State take online courses as part of their education. And it is important to remember that even though these classes are popular and convenient, they are just as challenging as regular classes and cover the same material.

Online classes do not meet in person. The course web site serves as the classroom. Class discussions are done through postings, assignments are submitted electronically and communication takes place via email or chat. Much of the coursework is done independently with established deadlines. There are specified enrollment periods and completion dates. Online courses generally follow the same schedule (quarter) as traditional face-to-face courses and require at least as much time.

Hybrid classes which combine the elements of online and traditional courses are also offered. These courses require attendance at scheduled on-campus or clinical locations for lectures, labs or clinical experiences. The amount of time spent in the face-to-face setting will be about 50 percent of what is required in a traditional course.

Are you ready for Online Learning? Find out by completing the READI assessment. It will take you about 30 minutes, but you may log out and complete it later if necessary. After you login,  you will receive an e-mail from READI with a READI PIN number that will allow you to log back in later or view your results again. Your READI score will not prevent you from registering for online classes. It is a tool that will help you assess your strengths and weaknesses related to online learning.
