Parent/Family Information

Our students tell us all the time how family members provide a strong support network for their success. Whether it's your son, daughter, husband or wife, we know it takes patience and understanding when dealing with homework, exams and study group meetings. Since many of our students have families of their own, it's truly amazing what they are able to accomplish.

As a matter of convenience, you may be asked by your family member to register him or her for classes or stop by and drop off payment. We know that you want to help as much as you can. However, there are some limitations as to your involvement on the student's behalf. First and foremost, we must protect the privacy of the student and ask that you understand our need to do so. Although we don't encourage it, dropping off payment or a registration card is acceptable. Instead, we suggest that the student register or pay online using WebAdvisor. Since we are prohibited from divulging student information to anyone including family members, we ask that you speak directly with the student if you need information about his or her education at Clark State.

Access to Educational Records
Once your family member enrolls at Clark State, his or her privacy is immediately protected by a federal law known as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974. We often refer to it as FERPA, and it governs much of how we interact with you when dealing with student information. If the student is under the age of 18, a parent is entitled to the same rights as the student. However, if the student is over the age of 18, those rights are passed onto the student, and parents and family members no longer have access to information about the student.
