Nurse Aide Training Requirements

All students enrolling in the Practical Nursing or Registered Nursing programs must meet one of the following requirements prior to entering the first clinical class:

  1. The student became a STNA (state-tested nurse aide) more than two years ago and has maintained the state-tested nurse aide credentials.

  2. The student passed a state-approved nurse aide training program at a non-collegiate institution within the last two years and successfully completed the State Competency Evaluation Program (exam) for Nurses' Aides.

  3. The student has credit for Clark State Community College's MST 181 course within the last two years.

  4. The student has credit for a state-approved nurse aide training course at another college or school of nursing within the last two years.

  5. The student has worked as a hospital nurse aide for at least two years within the last five years. This student must have the following information sent by his/her supervisor to the PN or RN coordinator (whichever program she/he desires to enter) the following information: job description, a letter of recommendation and the most recent job evaluation. The nursing coordinator will then evaluate the information and notify the student if he/she meets the requirements.

The student must make a copy of the appropriate credentials and present it to the nursing faculty during the first week of the first clinical course. The appropriate credentials for each category above are:

  • The STNA credential card. Nursing faculty will verify for current registry status.
  • The STNA credential card.
  • The Certificate of Successful Completion of the course.
  • The Certificate of Successful Completion of the course.
  • The letter from their supervisor with requested information. Program coordinator will evaluate.
