Proficiency Exam Information

If you feel that you already have the competency/skill that is offered in a self-paced course, you have the option of taking a proficiency exam in order to test out of the course. The proficiency exam is a pass/fail grade (80 percent or better is passing) and does not figure into a student's GPA. The student's transcript does not reflect how the course was taken, just that credit was earned.

The proficiency exam consists of an in-class hands-on test where the participant will have to create, type, edit, manipulate and format data file(s) consistent with the application used in the course. You must schedule a proficiency exam date with the self-paced lab lab assistant at 937/328-7937. Payment must be made in the Cashier's Office on the second floor of Rhodes Hall on the Leffel Lane Campus or the front desk at the Greene Center prior to the scheduled exam date, and the written receipt must be provided to the test administrator on the day of the test before the exam can be administered. The cost is $15 per credit hour, $20 minimum.

You may request a proficiency guideline sheet from the Business Division office on the second floor of the Brinkman Educational Center on the Downtown Campus, 937/328-6037 or from the self-paced lab instructors in either the TLC or the Greene Center.
