Student E-Mail FAQs

Registered students are provided a Novell GroupWise student e-mail account for their use. You can use it just like any other Internet e-mail account. Your address for sending or receiving mail from off campus is your user name followed by @clarkstate.edu (e.g., smitha0157@clarkstate.edu). Additional information on student accounts is available in the open learning labs in Rhodes Hall and the Brinkman Center.

I’m a new student, do I have an e-mail account at Clark State?
Yes you do. As soon as you register for your first class, you will be given a Novell GroupWise e-mail account that you can use while attending Clark State.

What is my e-mail address?
Your Clark State e-mail address is your username followed by @clarkstate.edu. Your e-mail address will look something like this: smithj1234@clarkstate.edu.

How do I log in the first time?
All user accounts for computer systems are set up similarly with your username being the first five letters of your last name (or your entire last name if it is less than five letters) followed by your first initial and the last four digits of your Student ID Number. Your username will look something like this: smithj1234. Your password is all seven digits of your Student ID Number.

If you change your password for your student e-mail, your Novell password will be changed as well. No matter which location you change your password, both locations will use the same password.

You can find your username (sometimes called your log in or user ID) on your class schedule.

You will find a link for student e-mail in the footer on every web page on Clark State’s website.

What is the storage limit and what happens if I exceed it?
Student e-mail accounts have a 5MB maximum storage capacity. A usage bar at the top of the screen indicates how close you are to reaching the maximum. Once you reach that maximum, you will no longer be able to send e-mail messages from this account.

Any items in your e-mail account older than 180 days will be deleted.

What can I use this e-mail account for?
You can use your Clark State e-mail for all your needs. But most importantly, we want you to use it when you are communicating with staff, faculty and other students. This is the e-mail account that the College will use to send you important information about news and events that are happening on campus.

How long do I get to keep this e-mail account?
Your e-mail account at Clark State will remain active as long as you are a student at Clark State. You should print or forward any e-mail messages you want to retain before leaving the College.

Can I forward my student e-mail to my Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, etc.?
Yes, it is possible to forward your e-mail, but we encourage you to log into your GroupWise e-mail account daily instead. In order to forward your e-mail, you will need to set up a Rule under the Options Menu.

What if I forget my password?
Your Clark State e-mail password by default is your seven-digit student ID number. That number is found on your class schedule. GroupWise will not ask you to change your password, but for security reasons, this is encouraged. Please note: If you change your e-mail password, your Novell password to log in to the College’s network will be changed as well. Both Novell and Novell GroupWise use the same password.
