Student Printing

Each quarter each enrolled student is provided $7.50 in a printing account to print documents on campus. Black and white pages will be charged against the student’s printing account at a rate of 5 cents ($0.05) per page printed (150 pages of black and white prints). Students who exceed the $7.50 allocation for the quarter can add additional funds for printing by using a personal credit/debit card. Students who do not have a credit/debit card can purchase one in the Bookstore to add funds to their printing accounts.

Money placed into the students’ printing accounts by the students will carry over from one term to the next. However, once the money is placed into the printing account, it cannot be refunded.

Each quarter the College will refresh all enrolled student accounts with $7.50 (150 pages of black and white prints). Unused pages do NOT carry over from one term to another. The value placed in the students’ printing accounts by Clark State is used up each quarter before any carryover funds added by the student are used.

A lack of funds in a student’s printing account will not be considered a valid reason for not meeting deadlines for submitting course work.

What's happening with printing in the student labs?
All students will be provided $7.50 worth of printing (150 black/white pages at $0.05 per page) at the start of each quarter beginning Spring 2011. Students will be able to add pages as needed. A credit card or debit card will be required to cover the cost of more pages.

Why is Clark State doing this?
Clark State needs to keep the cost of student education as low as possible and curbing printing abuse is one small way that can be done. It is also important to be good stewards of our earthly resources, and be mindful that wasteful printing contributes to landfill problems and needlessly kills trees to make that paper.

How many pages will I be able to print for "free"?
At the start of each quarter, each student will have $7.50 (150 pages at 5 cents per page) credited to their account. This is the same no matter how many courses or credit hours a student is taking.

Where can I print?
Most computer labs on campus have printers that are part of this system. At the Library, the printers are behind the counter, and you will need to ask for your printout.

How do I know how much I have left in my account?
When a student prints in one of the labs, a window pops up prompting the student to release the print job. This pop-up window shows the balance left in the student’s account. Alternatively, you can view your account balance at the same web page where you can purchase more pages.

Do the funds in my account carry over to the next term?
The free pages do not accumulate – you will have $7.50 (150 pages) at the start of each term. However, if you add to the funds in your account, the money you add will roll over to the next term.

What about refunds for money that I've added to my account but not used?
There are no refunds available. Students are urged to add pages to their account carefully, so that they do not leave unused funds in their accounts. The funds will be available for printing as long as the student has Novell/Groupwise accounts - normally for two years after the last class was taken.

I need more pages, but I do not have a credit card. What can I do?
The Bookstore (and other places) sell prepaid credit cards (Visa or MasterCard) that can be used at this website. We recommend that the student watch their printing balance left on their account (this displays in the pop-up window when they release a print job), and purchase a card before they run out of pages. The credit cards can be used for other things in addition to printing.

Will color printing be available to students?
Not at this time. However, at some point in the future this may be possible, but at a higher per page cost than the black/white pages.

What do I do about pages that printed poorly - for example paper jams or streaked pages?
Normally, after a printer jams, the printer reprints the jammed pages, and finishes the job. The student will not be charged extra when that happens.

If a student has pages that were charged to his/her account, but were unusable due to printer malfunction (e.g streaks ), he or she will need take the unusable pages to the Help Desk in BEC basement, the Library checkout counter in TLC or to the Greene Center front desk so someone can verify the number of mal-printed pages. The Help Desk will need the student username, the printer where the malfunction occurred and the time and date of the print job to further verify the malfunction and to track a printer that may need service. It is rare for this to occur. Credit will not be given for formatting mistakes or for a student printing more pages than expected. Students are encouraged to check documents via Print Preview for number of pages and appearance before actually printing.
