Examples of Teaching/Learning Assignments, Projects, Methods

Medical Laboratory
  • Program is online and uses diverse teaching strategies such as videos of lectures and lab materials, just in time responses to questions and multiple teaching aids.
  • Case study assignments and discussion forums are utilized to enhance critical thinking and teamwork skills.
Practical Nursing
  • The "Ethnic Potluck" in the LPN program’s Nutrition class contributes to achievement of the CORE Diverse Perspectives outcome
  • A well-elderly assignment assists students with their verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Service-learning projects help develop critical thinking skills in real world situations.
  • "Contribution" in nursing written assignment assists in writing skills and reflects personal motivation for nursing.
  • Medication Administration and IV Therapy assists with development of qualitative reasoning skills.
Registered Nursing
  • Use of clinical simulations within the classroom facilitates critical thinking
  • Service learning project assists student to achieve learning outcomes related to teaming and speaking
  • State of the art skills lab with advance technology provides a realistic simulated learning experience.

Evidence of Learning Outcome Achievement

Medical Laboratory
  • National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited program
  • Supervisors of students enrolled in capstone directed practice course give student scores of 90-100% on their clinical performance.
  • Employers contact lab director to seek out our students as employees.
Practical Nursing
  • Program with full approval from Ohio Board of Nursing
  • National licensing exam first time pass rates for practical nursing students over pass 5 years were 92%-100%
  • The survey of graduates, which is completed six months after they graduate from the program, indicates that 90% of those responding indicated they felt the program had prepared them for their current positions. Forty two percent of the graduates were continuing in school, pursuing their registered nursing degree.
Registered Nursing
  • Program is accredited by National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC)
  • Program has full approval from Ohio Board of Nursing
  • Over the past three years,
    • the program completion rate ranged from 66-69%
    • 87-97% of the responding new graduates indicated they felt the program prepared them for their first RN position
    • 77-85% of the responding new graduates reported employment as RNs
    • 84.5-92.8% of the graduates passed their licensure exam on the first attempt.
  • 24% of the 2010 responding graduates indicated they were enrolled in a 4-year college pursuing a bachelor in nursing degree.
