About College Tech Prep
College Tech Prep is more than a college prep curriculum. College Tech Prep is a federally-funded, national education reform that began in 1990. College Tech Prep was created to meet the economy's increasing focus on a high tech workforce and to meet the educational needs of students who learn best in a challenging, hands-on environment. College Tech Prep began in Ohio in 1991. There are 24 College Tech Prep Consortia in Ohio that include secondary, higher education and business and industry partners. Approximately 13,000 high school students and 7,000 college students are currently enrolled in Ohio's Tech Prep programs. The Clark State College Tech Prep Consortium was formed in 1994. The consortium is affiliated with 27 secondary schools, three vocational educational planning districts, Clark State Community College and over 100 business and industry partners in Clark, Logan, Champaign and Greene Counties.
College Tech Prep programs begin in grade 11 and continue through at least an associate's degree. Most College Tech Prep programs also include an option to continue on and earn a bachelor's degree. Students typically enroll in College Tech Prep during the regular course scheduling process in the sophomore year of high school. College Tech Prep curriculum includes college prep academics and technical skills training in a particular career area. Program emphasize teamwork, hands-on learning, work site experience, critical thinking and problem solving.
