Math Practice Tests

The math practice tests were created to help high school students prepare for the math portion of the Ohio Graduation Test. The practice tests were developed by area math faculty and are not endorsed by any agency.

Each practice test consists of 36 multiple choice questions, 5 short answer questions and 2 extended response questions in the following five categories:

  • Number, Number Sense and Operations
  • Measurement
  • Geometry and Spatial Sense
  • Patterns, Functions and Algebra
  • Data Analysis and Probability

These are the same five categories that comprise the Ohio Graduation Test. Each practice test is also organized so that the distribution of questions within each category falls within the parameters that will be used on the Ohio Graduation Test.

The tests assume the user will have access to a scientific calculator. If one is not available, most personal computers have a calculator feature that can be accessed through the “Start” menu in the lower left corner of the screen. Click “Start,” “Programs,” “Accessories,” and “Calculator.” The calculator can be changed to a scientific calculator by clicking “Scientific” in the “View” menu on the calculator.

When taking the test simply click the forward or reverse arrows next to the question numbers to scroll through the questions. The test will not keep a running total of the number of questions the user gets correct; however, by scrolling back at the end of the test the user can easily count for him/herself.

  • Click A, B, C or D to answer the multiple choice questions. An “X” means the answer is not correct. You may continue making selections until you have found the correct answer or eliminated all of the incorrect answers. A smile, “:-)”, indicates a correct response.
  • If A says “see answer,” the question is not multiple choice. The user is to formulate a response to the question. Clicking A will call up a screen with a correct solution to the problem. (Note: There may be multiple acceptable solutions to these questions. Only one example is supplied. Thus an alternative response does not necessarily constitute an incorrect answer.)
