Truck Driving

Clark State's Commercial Transportation Training Center (CTTC) offers several programs of varying duration and intensity, for both corporate employees and newcomers to the industry. These programs are available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Programs conclude with the participants obtaining Class "A" or Class "B" CDL licensing and job placement assistance if needed.

The Hazmat Endorsement can be added to any Class "A" or "B" program for an additional cost of $94.

All tuition costs include physical, drug screen, CDL permit, CDL test and CDL license fees in addition to all training materials.

Tanker Truck Training
The Commercial Transportation Training Center now offers training on how to drive a tanker truck. This new program has been created to meet the needs of trucking companies who require professionally-trained drivers for operating tanker trucks.

Heavy Equipment Training Now Available!
The Commercial Transportation Training Center has partnered with the Warren County Career Center to provide a Heavy Equipment & Site Construction program. CDL training starts monthly and the Heavy Equipment training program starts every eight weeks.

Class "A" Training Program

This five-week course runs Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and starts with 64 hours of classroom instruction that includes defensive driving, logbook and hours of service, map reading and trip planning, vehicle inspection, vehicle familiarization, coupling and uncoupling and backing. Another 120 hours are dedicated to in-the-truck-training. The cost of the five-week program is $4,500*.

Yard and range work is designed to allow students to develop their driving skills in a controlled environment. These skills consist of:

Right and left turns Alley dock
Shifting skills Safe backing skills
Normal and panic stopping Conventional parallel park
   

The over-the-road driving portion of the program consists of training on all types of roads: city, county, state and interstate highways. This will allow our students to get valuable experience in handling a tractor-trailer in all types of traffic situations. Class size ranges from 15-18 students, which allows our school to provide the individual training that might be needed by our students.

The Class "A" training programs can be taken as certificate courses or credit courses (earn nine hours of college credits).

Students who attend any of our Class "A" programs can receive the Passenger / School Bus Endorsement training for an additional amount of $500.

Class "B" Passenger / School Bus Endorsement Program

This three-week course runs Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and starts with 64 hours of classroom instruction that includes defensive driving, logbook and hours of service, map reading and trip planning, vehicle inspection, vehicle familiarization and backing. Another 80 hours are dedicated to in-the-truck-training. The cost of the three-week program is $3,000*.

Adult Remedial Driving Course

Clark State Community College offers an adult remedial driving course through the National Safety Council the third and fourth Saturdays of the month at our Springfield location and at the Greene County Career Center in Xenia.

Attend a remedial driving course and you may be eligible for a two-point credit on your driving record if you have any of the following:

  • Have been court ordered to attend a remedial course
  • Have a 12-point suspension
  • Have at least two but no more than eleven points
  • Have a juvenile suspension that occurred before the age of 18

Tractor-Trailer Refresher Program

This three-week course is for experienced drivers who hold a valid Class "A" CDL and need to refresh their skills prior to going back to work. The course runs Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and consists of 64 hours of classroom and 80 hours in the truck. The cost of the three-week program is $3,000*
