Weapons of Mass Destruction

Planning for School Bomb Incidents, Haz-Mat Operations Training and Civilian Mass Casualty Decon

For all classes
Students should come prepared to work and develop new skills. Dual purpose CEUs will be issued and may be applied to Haz-Mat and Firefighting CEU requirements.

Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings

There is no way to predict when and where the next terrorist attack will occur. The day before the Oklahoma City Bombing, very few people would have believed that an attack would occur there. Now, everyone should realize that virtually any location in the U.S. could be targeted.

It is important that first responders understand that all terrorists are not from other countries. They can be as close as living next door to you. Potential targets for terrorist attacks are largely based on a particular terrorist group’s objectives and capabilities.

Topics Covered

  • The threat - terrorists and energetic materials
  • Recognition and identification of energetic materials
  • Incident response

WMD Awareness/Civilian Mass Casualty Decon

Utilize new standards developed by Homeland Security.

Target Audience

  • Fire service personnel
  • EMS personnel
  • Haz-Mat personnel

This six-hour class will provide participants with a brief overview regarding potential terrorist threats within the United States, including recent domestic terrorist acts. Participants will learn information that will assist them in recognizing a possible terrorist act involving a WMD (CBRNE).

During the Decon portion, participants will perform actual hands-on evolutions of decon procedures for ambulatory and non-ambulatory mass casualties involving Hazardous Materials and/or WMD. Information from this class was obtained via Homeland Security, Center for Domestic Preparedness in Anniston, Alabama.

Upon successful completion of course, 6.0 CEUs will be awarded.

Understanding and Planning for School Bomb Incidents

Understanding and planning for school bombings and threats will assist school administrators with the planning and response to these types of incidents.
