Clark State PTK Chapter Receives Numerous Honors, Plans Spring Induction

Alpha Nu Lambda, Clark State Community College’s chapter of the international honor society Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), will hold a spring induction ceremony at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 24 at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center in downtown Springfield. The 2018-19 Clark State class of Alpha Nu Lamba received numerous kudos at the PTK Ohio Region Awards ceremony in March. Alpha Nu Lamba was named a 5-Star Chapter and received 1st Runner-Up and the Catch a Shining Star award for their Student Engagement hallmark project. There are more than 40 PTK chapters in Ohio, and the Clark State Alpha Nu Lambda chapter was ranked No.7 in the state; jumping three spots from last year.

Project Jericho's Shelter: A Celebration of Visual and Performing Arts

Project Jericho constructed programming this spring inspired by the Springfield Museum of Art’s current exhibit entitled, Shelter: Crafting a Safe Home. In response to the exhibit, Project Jericho’s participants created drypoint etching prints, hand crafted books and poetry with the desire to create community awareness around the critical need for shelter. On Thursday, April 25, 2019, from 5-6:30 p.m., the community is invited to attend a free reception at the Springfield Museum of Art and celebrate the Shelter inspired art made by Project Jericho youth and families.

Winners of Clark State Creative Writing Contest to Headline Poetry Reading

Clark State Community College will host the winners of the Voices of the Valley regional poetry contest for a reading on Friday, April 19. The contest, established by the Clark State Creative Writers Club, was open to 25 schools in the area. The contest theme prompted writers to “Convey a Sense of Place,” and contestants could submit up to two poems with no more than 250 words per poem. The poetry reading will be held from 2-5 p.m., Friday, April 19 in the Eagle's Nest Café on Clark State’s Springfield campus. It will showcase readings from high school, college and university students from surrounding counties. This event is open to the community.

Clark State Senior VP Selected for Aspen Institute College Excellence Program

Dr. Theresa Felder, senior vice president of student success for Clark State Community College, has been named to The Aspen Institute’s College Excellence Program class of 2019-2020. The Aspen Presidential Fellowship for Community College Excellence is a leadership program designed to prepare the next generation of community college presidents to transform institutions to achieve higher and more equitable levels of student success, both in college and in the labor market. The select group of 40 Aspen Presidential Fellows will embark on a 10-month fellowship beginning in July 2019.

Clark State to Host Plant Sale Benefitting Agriculture and Horticulture Club

The Clark State Community College Agriculture and Horticulture Club will host a plant sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, April 19 in the Sara T. Landess Technology and Learning Center rotunda on the Springfield campus. The Clark State Plant Propagation class grew the plants in the Clark State greenhouse. The annual plant sale is open to the community, and plants will range in price from $1 - $5. Funds raised will benefit the Agriculture and Horticulture Club.
