Clark State Community College will host its first Clark State Day at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 27 at its baseball home field, 1000 Pierce Drive in Fairborn. The event – open to Clark State faculty, staff, students and the community - will be held during the last Clark State men’s baseball game against rival Sinclair Community College.
“We are looking forward to having our Clark State staff, faculty and the community come see the progress we have made with our baseball team,” said Justin McCulla, director of athletics and student life at Clark State. “It should be a fun day to come out to the ball field to watch some baseball.”
Vicente Castro plays catcher for the Clark State baseball team. He said he is improving his baseball skills more and more as a team member of the Clark State Eagles. Last year he broke the homerun record. “I enjoy being on the team because we are like a family,” said Castro.
In 2014, Clark State joined NJCAA and competes at the division II level in women’s softball, volleyball and basketball; and men’s baseball and basketball. Clark State is also a member of the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC).
“Many potential students don’t realize Clark State offers the option to play sports at the college level,” said Dr. Jo Alice Blondin, president of Clark State. “Our athletic programs are part of the National Junior College Athletic Association and provide an opportunity for student athletes to improve upon their skills and potentially move on to play for a four-year school.”
The Clark State Alumni Association will host a pre-game tailgate party beginning at 12 p.m. and includes food, refreshments, games and a raffle for Clark State gear. A Snapchat filter will also be available during the game. Snaps can be sent to clarkstatecc on Snapchat for a re-post.
Students are encouraged to wear their Clark State spirit gear on Thursday, April 25 in support of Clark State athletics.
