The Time Jumpers to Play Clark State Performing Arts Center April 30

January 18, 2017

Multi Grammy-nominated group The Time Jumpers, featuring country music star Vince Gill, will make their debut at the Clark State Performing Arts Center on Sunday, April 30.

The Time Jumpers includes 10 members, each a master of his instrument. They are Vince Gill (vocals, electric and acoustic guitars), “Ranger Doug” Green (vocals, acoustic rhythm guitar), Paul Franklin (steel guitar), Brad Albin (upright bass), Larry Franklin (vocals, fiddle), Andy Reiss (electric guitar), Kenny Sears (vocals, fiddle), Joe Spivey (vocals, fiddle), Jeff Taylor (accordion, piano) and Billy Thomas (vocals, drum).

“This is a unique opportunity for our community to see Vince Gill with The Time Jumpers,” said Adele Adkins, executive director of the Clark State Performing Arts Center. “As of this June, he will no longer be touring for the remainder of the year.”

On September 9,the band released their radiant third album Kid Sister on Rounder Records. This treasury of 14 tunes—new and classic—is both a sweet tribute to the band’s late “girl singer,” Dawn Sears (the “Kid Sister” of the title), and a sparkling celebration of western swing and traditional country music.

The Time Jumpers was established in Nashville in 1998 by an assemblage of high-dollar studio musicians who wanted to spend some spare time jamming with their sonically gifted buddies. The notion of building a rabidly devoted following was the last thing on their minds. But that’s what happened. Learning that Monday evenings were the slowest in the week for the Station Inn bluegrass club, the superpickers settled into that fabled venue at the start of each week and set up shop.  Pretty soon Monday nights were sounding a lot like Saturday nights—and drawing commensurately lively crowds.

As word spread along Music Row that something special was happening at Station Inn, big stars began dropping by, some to sit in with the band, others just to enjoy the vast array of country, swing, jazz and pop standards The Time Jumpers rejoiced in playing. Among those drop-bys were Bonnie Raitt, Reba McEntire, Sheryl Crow, Joe Walsh, Norah Jones, Robert Plant, The White Stripes, Kings of Leon, Jimmy Buffet, Elvis Costello and Kelly Clarkson.

The band has six Grammy nominations: two for their first album “Jumpin’ Time,” two more in 2013 for their self-titled release on Rounder Records, and they just received their fifth and sixth Grammy nominations: Best Americana Album for “Kid Sister” and Best American Roots Song for the title track “Kid Sister” written by Vince Gill.

Tickets for The Time Jumpers will go on sale February 17. Tickets will range in price from $30 to $75 and will be available at the Clark State Performing Arts Center Box Office or online at The show begins at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 30 at the Clark State Performing Arts Center, 300 South Fountain Avenue, Springfield.
