Self-paced courses provide a convenient alternative to traditional and online courses. After completing the self-paced orientation held within the first two weeks of the semester, you can set your own pace to complete your coursework guided by specific course requirements (will vary depending on course). Coursework can be completed independently, away from campus or in campus labs. All testing must be completed in the self-paced lab during scheduled self-paced lab hours.
Select "self-paced" in the delivery method menu in the Online Class Schedule to see which self-paced courses are offered each term.
Clark State offers proficiency exams for many of the self-paced courses. A proficiency exam is one test that is paid for separately in the Cashier's Office and, if passed, gives the student full credit for the course. Eighty percent or better is a passing score. Please note that a proficiency exam cannot be retaken for a period of one year.
If you are on any type of financial aid, taking a proficiency exam will drop your credit hours by the number of credit hours of the course you took the proficiency exam for. You would then need to replace that course with another course in order to maintain your current level of credit hours. Please contact the self-paced lab coordinator at 937.328.8087 to schedule a proficiency exam.
- Current students should visit the myClarkState portal and complete the self-paced orientation which includes course requirements.
