Phlebotomy Noncredit Course
Phlebotomy (SEM 007) is a 39‐hour noncredit course that will introduce students to basic phlebotomy principles and procedures. The comprehensive 13-week course includes both lecture and practice lab, providing a hands-on experience for each student to learn a variety of phlebotomy techniques. After completing the classroom and lab practice component of this course, the student will receive a certificate of course completion and will be qualified to obtain entry-level employment as a phlebotomist in many clinical areas.
These basic principles and procedures include:
- The clinical laboratory
- Regulatory and legal issues
- Safety and infection control
- Venipuncture-procedures, complications and equipment
- Basic anatomy and physiology and the circulatory system
- Medical terminology
- Special blood collection
- Quality assessment
Blood draws will be performed on other class members under the direct supervision of the instructor.
