Clark State to Highlight Career Opportunities, Host Webinar for Ohio In-Demand Jobs Week

May 2, 2022

Clark State College will celebrate In-Demand Jobs week with a series of events beginning today, May 2 through Friday, May 6.

Monday, May 2 marks the beginning of Ohio’s In-Demand Jobs Week: the statewide celebration of the jobs, industries, and skills that are in-demand in Ohio. This year the celebration will highlight all of Ohio's top jobs that pay more than $50,000 per year and don’t require a degree or years of training – just a credential.

“Our region has a large number of in-demand jobs and job seekers needing to be hired so we want to make sure we are doing our part in providing opportunities for training and information on funding opportunities to help employers and individuals fill those roles,” said Gerritt Smith, director of Clark State Workforce & Business Solutions.

Clark State’s Commercial Transportation Training Center (CTTC) has seen a boost in enrollment and will be adding weekend courses in the near future.

“Our students are exposed to recruiters from 12-15 motor carriers during each of our classes,” said Duane Hodge, director of the Clark State CTTC. “We are seeing significantly improved starting pay with most of our students finding local, regional, dedicated and OTR opportunities. The (Interstate) 70/75 corridor provides a dynamic economic development advantage to our area and has attracted many warehousing, auto supplier, and food distribution centers to this area. This makes Clark State uniquely positioned and a highly sought-after location for recruiters.”

Hodge said students who complete the program at Clark State are currently seeing starting pay around $1,250 to $1,500 weekly in positions that have them home daily.

“Individuals who are willing to work some weekends are reporting the ability to make $2,000 a week,” he said.

Hodge said Clark State also applied and was approved for the new Commercial Drive Training Student Aid Program.

“This is a grant/loan program where half the cost of our program is grant-funded and the other half is a loan that is forgivable if the graduate works in Ohio for one year after graduation,” he said.

Clark State will host a free, employer-lead discussion on jobs Friday, May 6, at 6 p.m. via Zoom. Registration is open at:
