Clark State to Host Public Services Day with Hands-On Training Opportunities

May 18, 2022

Clark State College will host a Public Services Day, a hands-on-career informational fair for fire, emergency medical services (EMS), criminal justice and the police academy on Saturday, May 21 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Brinkman Educational Center, 100 South Limestone Street, Springfield.

The event offers those interested in public service careers the opportunity to meet with Clark State instructors and learn more about training in fire, emergency medical services (EMS), criminal justice and the police academy. Activities specific to each of these careers will be available for participants to partake in.

Karen Benton, associate professor, and criminal justice program coordinator at Clark State, said the purpose of Public Service Day at Clark State is to provide an opportunity for members of the community who may be interested in careers in law enforcement, corrections, fire and/or EMS to experience first-hand some of the tools that are utilized in each of these areas.

“Faculty linked to each of these disciplines will be on hand to answer questions regarding their programs and provide information regarding how to begin the process of becoming law enforcement officers, correctional officers, firefighters and/or a member of the emergency medical professions,” she said. “The job market overwhelmingly needs individuals who are trained in these fields. This is Clark State College’s attempt to assist in this effort.”
