The 89 hour Dental Assisting Program prepares students for entry level positions in one of the fastest growing health care positions – Dental Assisting with Clinical Externship. 

The purpose of this course is to familiarize the student with all areas of pre-clinical dental assisting and provide training in the professional skills required to function as an assistant in the dental practice.

  • CPR certification
  • Administrative Aspects include: the history of dentistry and dental assisting; introduction to the dental office; the legal aspects of dentistry; policies and guidelines.
  • Clinical Aspects include: introduction to oral anatomy; dental operatory; dental equipment, introduction to tooth structure; primary and permanent teeth; the oral cavity and related structures; proper patient positioning; dental hand-pieces; sterilization; and other areas.
  • Dental Radiography Certification and Affidavit Requirement Completion
    • Including: Radiation Physics, Radiation Biology, Radiation Health Safety and Protection, X-ray Films, Radiography Film Quality

This course is ideal for obtaining entry level administrative jobs for individuals pursuing Dental Assisting Certification. In addition to CPR and Dental Radiography certification, this course prepares individuals to sit for the ICE certification. (ICE exam not included)  

Course Contact Hours: 89 Hours

Students will have classroom hours at Clark State Community College with additional hands-on lab hours at a local dentist office in Springfield.

Student Tuition: $2,000 (Textbooks included)

Grant funding that covers up to half of the course costs are now available, contact the Workforce Development and Business Solutions Department for more information!  Payment plans and other financial assistance may be available as well.

Clinical Externship Hours: 80 hours

Externship is optional but recommended for additional hands on experience. Details on placement will be given during first week of class.
