Clark State Appoints Doug Schantz to Position of Associate Vice President of Business Affairs

May 14, 2020

Clark State Community College has appointed Doug Schantz to the position of associate vice president of business affairs. Schantz, a life-long resident of Springfield, Ohio, and graduate of Wittenberg University, brings with him a wealth of experience in higher education and a passion for student success.

Schantz most recently served as the director of business operations at Wittenberg University where he has been employed for more than 20 years. At the foundation of his experience is a deeply rooted commitment to establish an infrastructure of services and programs that positively impact student success in the higher education landscape.

“Mr. Schantz’s extensive higher education finance experience will be an excellent complement to an already strong Business Affairs team,” said Dr. Jo Alice Blondin, president of Clark State. “His student-centered approach sets him apart from the other candidates.”

During his tenure at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, Schantz gained leadership experience in the areas of facilities management, audit and compliance, budget and finance, cash management, debt acquisition, risk management, Title IX compliance, financial aid operations and student success initiatives.

“I am extremely excited to be joining the leadership team at Clark State and having a meaningful impact on the short and long-term goals of the institution,” said Schantz. “During my 23 years in higher education, I have been committed to promoting and establishing an infrastructure of business office services, programs, processes and policies that positively support student success in the higher education landscape - I look forward to bringing that depth of experience to Clark State.”

Schantz has served the higher education business officer community in a leadership capacity at state and national levels including: guiding National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) committees to draft white paper guidance on tax regulations and cash management rules for peers across the nation and providing the Ohio Attorney General’s Education Sub-Committee with information to help to mitigate student loan debt in Ohio.

“Clark State's mission and guiding principles resonate strongly with my own personal beliefs and passions as it relates to college affordability and accessibility,” said Schantz. “As a Springfield native, the commitment that Clark State has for meeting the educational and work force development needs of the greater Springfield, Beavercreek, Bellefontaine and Xenia communities is inspiring to me and a wonderful testament to the good work occurring on their campuses.”

Schantz will begin his tenure with Clark State on June 1.
