Clark State Celebrates Black History Month

January 28, 2015

Clark State Community College will celebrate Black History Month with various events and activities through the month of February.

Music, books, movies and food will be the highlights of the month, along with twice-weekly motivational quotes and messages. “Every Monday and Thursday, we will e-mail a motivational quote about Black History throughout the month,” said Corey Holliday, director of community outreach for Clark State. Clark State students, faculty and staff will receive the e-mails.

The Central State Choir is slated to perform at the Clark State Performing Art Center at 8 p.m. on February 6. “Selections will highlight the musical heritage of Black Americans including spirituals, gospel, jazz and more,” said Adele Adkins, executive director of the Performing Arts Center. “The chorus will also present music from the classical genre and highlight the talent of music students at Central State University.” Free tickets are available at the Performing Arts Center ticket office by calling (937) 328-3874. Seating is reserved.

Former Ms. Black Ohio Tracey Sigers will be the featured speaker at the popular Soul Food Sampling on February 26. Sigers, a native of Ohio, is a transformational motivational speaker and affiliate professor for Ohio Christian University. The Soul Food event will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center and will be catered by A Catered Affair out of Cincinnati. “This is our chance to say thank you to the community,” said Holliday.
