Clark State Director for Center of Teaching and Learning to Present for SOCHE on Evolution of eLearning

April 26, 2021

Cindra Phillips, director for the Center of Teaching and Learning at Clark State College, has been selected by the Southwestern Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) to host a webinar titled: “The Evolution of eLearning."

“When the statewide pandemic lockdown hit in March of 2020, the faculty and staff at Clark State found themselves faced with the same challenge experienced by every other school in Ohio – how to pivot to exclusively virtual learning in only a matter of days,” Mindy Claggett, senior manager of events and meeting engagement for SOCHE, said in a statement. “Although (Clark State) already had been working toward better e-learning solutions, the lockdown hastened that movement exponentially.”

Phillips, who also serves as co-chair of the Faculty Development Committee with SOCHE, said during campus updates, she spoke about what Clark State did in the beginning (and continues to do and improve) and how the college collaborated to make the transition as painless as possible for all – faculty, staff and students.

“The pandemic has shown us that we need to be ready for anything,” said Phillips. “As one of my colleagues said, ‘Why waste a good crisis?’ We need to do more disaster recovery planning. Online and e-learning is not going away. We can be flexible and modify our delivery methods.”

Phillips will speak on:

  • The sudden shift to remote instruction
  • The adjustments that have happened each term since March 2020
  • Important strategies and techniques for e-learning toolboxes to enhance the student experience
  • Recommendations for providing students with the best learning experience possible in a remote environment

“We have all seen the accelerated growth in online learning and now is the time to make sure it is equitable, inclusive and use the data to drive acquiring tools and technology to achieve quality courses. How can we leverage the pandemic and continue the growth of e-learning,” said Phillips. “Without our visionary leadership, we could not have achieved our high level of e-learning and support of our faculty, staff and students.”

The “Evolution of eLearning" SOCHE Lunch and Learn will be held Thursday, June 3, from noon to 1 p.m.
