Clark State to Host Virtual Information Sessions for Students Interested in Nursing Programs

April 21, 2020

Clark State Community College will be hosting two virtual information sessions for students interested in enrolling in the nursing program as early as spring semester of 2021.

“With the nursing program’s changing admission requirements, there are many students with questions,” said Travis Binkley, assistant dean of advising services at Clark State. “These virtual sessions are a way for us to get a consistent message to students and give them an opportunity to meet with some of our great advising staff members. These unprecedented times can make students feel like they are on an island, and we want to make sure they know we are here to help.”

The sessions will be hosted by Clark State success coaches Toni Yancey, Shani Newton and Nicole Johnson.

Beginning spring semester of 2021, the Clark State nursing program will require students to take the TEAS pre-admission exam.

“The TEAS test is a pre-nursing exam that measures ability in writing, reading, math and science. The scores indicate a student’s likelihood to be successful in a nursing program,” said Binkley. “Students must test proficient at minimum in all areas to be considered for acceptance into the program.”

Through the virtual sessions, students will learn about the nursing program application process; each session will allow time for questions.

In each session students will learn:

  • Types and dates of cohorts
  • About the application (location on website, cycle dates, minimum criteria, etc.)
  • TEAS test information
  • Notification of selection to RN program
  • Courses with age limits

Clark State will administer the TEAS test on campus when able; the College is also looking into the possibility of remote options, however students can also take the test at any TEAS proctoring center, including other colleges.

“We want to welcome all students considering nursing as a major to attend one of these information sessions,” said Binkley.
