Clark State to Recognize Aspire Program Students

June 5, 2023

Clark State College will celebrate 113 students in the Aspire Program who have participated throughout the program over the last year. Of those Aspire students, 66 will be receiving a certificate recognizing the advancement in at least one skill gain over the past year.

The event will be held at 9 a.m., Tuesday, June 6, at in LRC Room 207/209 at the East Leffel Lane campus in Springfield.

“Clark State’s Aspire students are highly motivated achievers who have made the first critical step in unlocking their earning potential,” said Dr. Jo Alice Blondin, president of Clark State.

Ohio's Aspire program provides free services for individuals who need assistance in acquiring the skills to be successful in post-secondary education/training and employment. Local programs offer classes at flexible locations and on different days and times to meet diverse needs. All students are required to attend a two-day orientation, during which an assessment will be given to help determine the individual’s educational needs and goals.

The Clark State Aspire program was recognized by the Ohio Department of Higher Education as the highest in the state of Ohio for the persistence of students.

“I am extremely proud of all the hard work from our students,” said Andrew Buckles, assistant director of the Aspire Program.  “Each student is striving to achieve the goal they have set for themselves, and I see that wonderful dedication each and every day.”

Clark State’s Aspire program helps students achieve goals through free career exploration, education and training. Students can earn high school equivalency and build skills in preparation for college or career success.

Clark State offers Aspire programs in Clark and Logan counties.

“I’m inspired daily by the perseverance and dedication of Aspire students,” says Robin Littell, Aspire Lead Instructor.  “It’s a privilege to be a part of their education.”

Aspire works with students preparing for their GED (or similar) exam, or who are improving their knowledge of the English language (ESOL).
