Clark State Community College will host a College Credit Plus (CCP) informational event for local high schools and students on Tuesday, December 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center in downtown Springfield.

“School districts are required to hold a CCP event to give information to their parents and students about College Credit Plus,” said Kristin Skiles, early college coordinator for Clark State. “Having one CCP event where all students across the county hear consistent and precise information is what this event is about as well as increase the likelihood of colleges and universities participating as they only have to do one night rather than 11 individual nights.”

The College Credit Plus program allows students to earn college credits while in high school, all at no cost. This state-funded program covers tuition, books and fees.

There will be an opening session for all parents and students discussing CCP policies and procedures as well as some of the risks and benefits of participating which will be delivered by Kenton Ridge guidance counselor Edie Young.

Following the general session, each school district will have the opportunity to speak with parents and students directly about what CCP courses are offered at their high school and their internal procedures.

Local schools participating in the event include: Northeastern Local, Clark-Shawnee Local, OIC, Tecumseh, Greenon, Southeastern, Springfield City, Springfield CTC, Global Impact STEM Academy and Catholic Central.

Students will also have the opportunity to speak with local area colleges about their process and procedures in participating in CCP at their institution.
