mtvU Enrolls at Clark State

April 17, 2014

mtvU, MTV’s 24-hour college network, announced today that the channel is now broadcasting at Clark State Community College. Students can view the network in the café of the Green Center in Beavercreek, the Brinkman Educational Center in downtown Springfield (lobby & basement snack area) and the Wellness Center on the Leffel Lane Campus.

Broadcasting to more than 750 college campuses across the country, mtvU is the largest, most comprehensive television network just for college students. The heart of the channel is music videos from emerging artists that can't be seen anywhere else, in addition to the best student-produced content, original short-form series, hourly news updates, student life features, pro-social initiatives, and a wide variety of features on every aspect of campus life. mtvU is always on campus, with exclusive concerts and giveaways, in addition to distributing grants and scholarships, as well as shooting mtvU series and more. Broadcasting 24 hours a day, seven days a week, mtvU is dedicated to giving college students unparalleled opportunities to showcase their interests, talents, and achievements on a national level.

“We’re thrilled to bring mtvU to Clark State Community College and make the network more accessible to the school’s student body as a creative laboratory,” said Carlo DiMarco, Senior Vice President of mtvU University Relations. “mtvU is created by and for college students. It’s a home for the work of tomorrow’s leading musicians, filmmakers, writers, activists and digital pioneers. Each school in our network helps us to offer bigger and more exciting competitions, prizes, grants and on-campus events. We’re delighted to open these opportunities to Clark State Community College.”

mtvU is the definitive destination for the best student-created work: on-air, online and on mobile devices. The network offers independent college artists and entrepreneurs unparalleled opportunities to jumpstart their careers – including record and development deals, exposure on MTV channels and more. Every week, “College Radio Countdown” gives a different mtvU college radio station the chance to program mtvU for a week with their own custom top 10 music video picks for the network’s national college audience.

College students are engines for social change and mtvU places heavy emphasis on giving them opportunities and resources to make a positive impact in their community and worldwide. In partnership with Youth Venture, “mtvU Grants” awards students and groups that propose compelling and sustainable social entrepreneurship projects with up to $1,000. mtvU has also led an Emmy Award-winning Sudan campaign – in partnership with student activists across the country – to increase awareness of the genocide taking place in the Darfur region of Sudan. The campaign has educated more than 7 million college students nationwide about the crisis and helped arm them with tools to bring it to an end. mtvU has also partnered with The Jed Foundation on “Half of Us” (www.HalfofUs.com), an Emmy-nominated campaign designed to reduce the student suicide rate, fight the stigma of mental health on college campuses and connect students to the help they need. In September 2011, the network launched the “mtvU Against Our Will Campaign” at the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting. The campaign taps into the growing student movement to end modern-day slavery and makes it easy for young people to take action to help stop one of the greatest human rights atrocities of our time.

Emerging music is the heart and soul of mtvU and the network is one of the only places where college students can check out music videos, exclusive live performances and other programming featuring many of their favorite up-and-coming artists. The network is home to the “mtvU Woodie Awards,” a musical moment of truth honoring the artists who are infiltrating the music landscape. The show was established in 2004 and has since propelled numerous recognized acts to the next level of their careers – including surging record sales, headlining tours and mainstream notoriety.

Other acclaimed mtvU programming includes the Emmy-nominated “Stand In,” where global icons such as Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel, Madonna, Sting, Bill Gates, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, Senators John McCain and Sam Brownback, Rawandan President Paul Kagame, Cameron Diaz, Tom Wolfe, Kanye West, John Legend and others surprise college classrooms and teach for a day; “Student Bodies,” a fitness competition among students at the same school, with the winning team receiving a trip to mtvU’s Spring Break; plus “College Quickies,” a weekly spotlight on a laugh out loud clip from a student or student sketch comedy group that we share with the nation. The critically-acclaimed “Quinnterviews” also airs on mtvU, showcasing the uninhibited, hilarious talents of Emerson College senior Quinn Marcus.
