Clark State Community College welcomed Christopher Wamsley as the new head coach of the women’s softball team.
Wamsley brings years of coaching experience to the Lady Eagles program including having served as head coach of the varsity softball team at Kettering-Fairmont High School in Kettering, Ohio. He oversaw the complete Division I high school program consisting of varsity, junior varsity and freshman reserve teams that included more than 70 total players; coaching staff; and support positions for scheduling, practice outlines, overall planning and development for program improvement.
“We are excited to have Coach Wamsley on staff,” said Justin McCulla, director of athletics and student life for Clark State. “Coach Wamsley has a proven track record of turning around programs and leading young women. I see him as the type of individual who loves to teach and coach the game of softball.”
Wamsley also successfully maintained a 100 percent, on-time, graduation rate at Kettering-Fairmont.
“Wamsley understands that at this level, it is being a student first and an athlete second,” said McCulla. “It comes down to the hard work and dedication put forth from the young ladies. I am excited to see what doors he opens up for recruiting.”
Prior to his time at Kettering-Fairmont, Wamsley was head varsity softball coach at Waynesville High School in Waynesville, Ohio, where he doubled varsity wins from 2015 season, while increasing every statistic in 2016 season.
Wamsley also previously served as head coach of Archbishop Alter High School in Kettering, Ohio, from 2013 to 2015, and was a founding member of the South Dayton CHAOS Fast-pitch in Dayton, Ohio, and 18-U Head Coach from 2005 to 2015.
Wamsley said he believes this is an outstanding opportunity to make an immediate impact on a key portion of the athletic programs at Clark State, while also helping to develop a group of very well-rounded, successful student-athletes. “I am anxious to get our players together and get started with refining techniques and existing skills to create a stronger program,” he said.
His immediate goal will be to field a competitive team of players who are passionate about being the foundation of something Clark State will build on for many years. “We will be competitive immediately, and over a short period of time, we will become a key player in conference title discussions and player honors in many areas,” he said. “Our main overall focus will be to develop a solid, very competitive, program of well-rounded student athletes who enjoy future success at both athletic and academic levels during their time at Clark State.
The Clark State softball program will hold two open tryout sessions from 1 to 3 p.m., Tuesday, September 3 and Thursday, September 5 for any student interested in trying out for the 2019-2020 team. Tryouts will focus on general throwing, fielding, catching and hitting. Potential players should contact Coach Wamsley at wamsleyc@clarkstate.edu to register.
