Short-Term Technical Certificates Now Offered at Clark State

August 12, 2015

The Ohio Department of Higher Education (formerly the Ohio Board of Regents) has approved 24 certificates of study as Short-Term Technical Certificates at Clark State Community College. These certificates are less than the full one-year technical certificates currently available. The Short-Term Technical Certificates can be earned in less than 30 semester credit hours.

“Short-Term Technical Certificates are important credentials that help people acquire specific skills and then enter the job market,” said Dr. Amit Singh, provost and vice president of academic affairs for Clark State. “It also shows employers a commitment on the part of the potential employees to keep sharpening and adding to the skill toolbox.”

Clark State participated in the Ohio Department of Higher Education review process through the submission of requested information to determine if their current departmental certificates met the criteria for “technical” designation. Technical certificates are defined as organized programs of study that lead to an occupation or special employment opportunity and prepare students for a valid, available industry-recognized credential, such as an occupational license or thirty-party industry certification.

“These certificates have been available at Clark State,” explained Singh. “However, now they are certified by the Ohio Department of Higher Education, as part of its new initiative, as meeting technical standards that will lead to certification or employment.”
