Advising

Plan, Prepare, Succeed With Your Advisor!

At Clark State, you have a team of advisors here to support you—both academic advisors and faculty advisors within your program. Together, they help you make informed decisions, stay on track and connect your education to your future goals.

Your academic advisor is your first stop for staying on track. They assist with selecting a major, degree requirements, college policies, scheduling classes and financial aid and healthcare applications.

Your faculty advisor is your go-to for program-specific guidance. They help you choose courses within your major, explore career paths, discuss internships or research and connect your studies to your future goals.

Students who are first-generation college students, need financial assistance or have a documented disability can also apply for TRIO Student Support Services to receive specialized assistance.

Find the Right Advising Option for You

Clark State offers two ways to connect with an advisor. Choosing the right option will help you get what you need faster.

Open Advising (Drop-In – No Appointment Needed)
Best for quick help and currently enrolled (continuing) students.

Use Open Advising if you:

  • Have a quick question
  • Need help with registration after your first semester
  • Want brief guidance on a specific issue

Open Advising is designed for shorter conversations. If you need in-depth planning, schedule an appointment.

Advising Appointment (Scheduled Meeting)
Best for new, returning, or transfer students—or anyone needing a more in-depth conversation.

Schedule an appointment if you:

  • Are a new or returning student
  • Need help planning your academic path or SAP appeals
  • Are registering for your first semester
  • Want to explore majors or career options
  • Need detailed support beyond quick questions

Appointments allow time for a full discussion and personalized academic planning.

Your Personal College Advisors

Each Clark State location has dedicated academic advisors, and each program has dedicated faculty advisors. Choose your advisor below to schedule a meeting.

When you meet with your advisor, have this information ready:

  • Your student ID
  • Your major or certificate of interest for enrollment
  • A brief idea of what you wish to discuss: exploring a new major or career, scheduling classes or creating an academic plan.

You can also stop by open hours without an appointment:

  • Beavercreek -  Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., second floor
  • Springfield - Mondays and Thursdays, 3 p.m. - 5 p.m., Student Success Center, Rhodes Hall, first floor

Or, if you have a quick question, call us at 937-328-6084 or email us at advisors@clarkstate.edu!

New Student Advising Sessions

Get set up for success from day one! In your New Student Advising Session, Clark State staff will walk you through the myClarkState student portal and show you how to easily register for classes, check financial aid and manage your student account.

You’ll also learn how to schedule advising appointments, find campus resources and navigate everything you need—without the stress.

Plus, you’ll take part in quick, interactive career exploration activities to help connect your interests to real career paths—so you’re not just choosing classes, you’re building your future.

All new students are required to attend a session.

Reserve your spot. Sessions are held at the Springfield Main Campus, TLC 102

By the end, you'll feel confident, organized and ready to take on your first semester at Clark State!
