Placement Assessment
Start Strong With the Right Courses!
At Clark State, placement assessments help find your best starting point so you can build confidence, save time and stay on track from day one! These assessments aren’t pass-or-fail; they simply help make sure you start in courses that set you up for success! You may even qualify to skip a course!
Clark State uses Accuplacer reading and math assessments to help determine your best starting point. If you’ve completed college coursework, earned qualifying scores or taken another approved assessment within the past three years, you may not need to take the placement. Your admissions and career services specialist (below) will work with you to determine what is needed!
Do I Need an Assessment?
You may need to take placement assessments if you:
- Want to confirm placement in college algebra or a higher-level math course
- Do not have prior qualifying standardized test scores or transfer credit
- Have an ACT reading score below 21
- Have an SAT evidence-based reading and writing score below 450
- Have an ACT math score below 20
- Have an SAT math score below 510
If you have a documented disability (either a physical or learning disability) and need accommodations for taking a placement assessment, make prior arrangements with the Office of Accessibility.
