The Clark State Performing Arts Center will present two concerts featuring nationally recognized singer-songwriters in two consecutive weeks in February.
Nashville-based singer-songwriter Kyshona will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 13 as part of the Club Kuss series, a one-of-a-kind concert experience with audience members seated close to the stage, along with complimentary desserts before the show. A former music therapist, Kyshona’s performance will feature music from her new album, “Legacy,” which draws from five generations of family stories and themes of heritage, resilience and connection. According to NPR, “...heartfelt empathy is evident on Legacy, an inspiring collection of gospel, folk and blues.”
Tickets for Kyshona are $23 or $13 for students with a valid college ID.
One week later, the Clark State Performing Arts Center will welcome JJ Grey & Mofro at 8 p.m. on Feb. 20. By blending rock, blues, soul and funk into a high-energy live performance, Grey has been praised by The New York Times for his “impassioned singing, riff-based Southern rock, cold-blooded swamp funk and sly Memphis soul,” while Oxford American called it “the funkiest swamp rock the world has ever heard.” Grey’s 2024 album, “Olustee,” his 10th studio release and first self-produced project, explores themes of redemption, resilience, friendship and living in the moment.
Since his debut album, “Blackwater,” in 2001, Grey has performed at major festivals including Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, the Byron Bay Blues Festival, the Montreal Jazz Festival and Fuji Rock Festival in Japan. He has shared the stage with artists including B.B. King, The Allman Brothers Band, The Black Crowes, Mavis Staples and Jeff Beck, and his music has appeared in television and film including “House of Cards,” “Friday Night Lights” and “The Gray Man.”
Tickets for JJ Grey & Mofro range from $38 to $68, with VIP tickets available starting at $188.
Tickets for both performances are available at pac.clarkstate.edu or by calling the Clark State Performing Arts Center Ticket Office at 937-328-3874.
