Moody’s affirms college’s A2 rating, stable outlook

Moody’s Ratings has affirmed Clark State College’s A2 credit rating and stable outlook, citing the college’s strong regional role, enrollment, financial management and continued support from the State of Ohio.

Moody’s reaffirmed the rating Aug. 27 noting Clark State’s reputation in meeting the workforce needs of southwestern Ohio. The agency also recognized the college’s strong branding and clear strategic direction which support its visibility among students, employers and community partners.

“This assessment reflects the college’s continued commitment to sound financial management, strategic planning and responsible use of our resources,” said Doug Schantz, executive vice president of finance, facilities and operations at Clark State. “It also recognizes the important role Clark State plays in preparing students for the workforce needs of our region.”

Moody’s also noted that funding provided every two years by the State of Ohio reduces Clark State’s need to borrow for major projects and contributes to the college’s very low level of debt.

“Maintaining a strong financial position allows us to remain focused on our students and our mission while making strategic investments in programs and initiatives that serve the region,” Schantz said. “We are committed to continuing the disciplined financial and budget management that has helped position Clark State for long-term stability.”

Clark State offers approximately 150 academic programs including associate and bachelor’s degrees, certificates and workforce-focused credentials designed to prepare students for employment and career advancement. With locations in Beavercreek, Bellefontaine, Springfield and Xenia, the college offers programs in high-demand fields such as welding, nursing, medical assisting, cybersecurity, manufacturing, engineering, business, education and public safety. Through College Credit Plus, high school students can save time and money by earning college credits for little to no cost, while more than $500,000 in scholarships is awarded annually to new and returning students.
