“The Book of Mormon” performs Oct. 15; tickets on sale now

The national tour of the Tony Award-winning musical “The Book of Mormon” will launch in Springfield with its premiere performance taking place one night only at 8 p.m. on Oct. 15 at the Clark State Performing Arts Center, 300 S. Fountain Ave.

Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. on Aug. 3 and range from $53 to $93. Tickets may be purchased online at go.clarkstate.edu/book-of-mormon-tickets, by calling the Performing Arts Center ticket office at 937-328-3874 or in person at the ticket office.

Winner of nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, “The Book of Mormon” follows a mismatched pair of young missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who are sent to a remote village in Uganda where they encounter unexpected challenges while trying to share their faith. The musical combines sharp satire, memorable songs and heartfelt moments in a story about friendship, hope and finding common ground.

Since opening on Broadway in 2011, “The Book of Mormon” has become one of the most successful musicals in theater history. The production has earned more than 30 international awards including a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, and has broken box office records in New York, London and cities throughout the United States and around the world.

“The Book of Mormon” features book, music and lyrics by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone. The Broadway production is directed by Parker and two-time Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw with choreography by Nicholaw.

The national tour, directed and choreographed by Jennifer Werner and based on the original Broadway production, features scenic design by Scott Pask, costume design by Ann Roth, lighting design by Brian MacDevitt, sound design by Brian Ronan and hair design by Josh Marquette. Orchestrations are by Larry Hochman and Stephen Oremus with music supervision and vocal arrangements by Oremus. Casting is by Carrie Gardner.
