Scholars Program

First-Generation College Success!

The Clark State Scholars Program is a partnership between the Clark State College Foundation with regional school districts to support first-generation, college-bound students as they prepare for college — and life beyond high school.

Established more than 20 years ago, the Clark State Scholars Program is designed to identify students who aspire to be the first in their families to earn a college degree but may face barriers. These students become Clark State Scholars and receive academic guidance, mentorship, college exposure and long-term encouragement — starting in high school and continuing into college.

Scholars participate in an immersive, pre-college experience throughout high school. Upon graduation and successful completion of the program, Scholars earn up to three years of tuition at Clark State College at no cost.  This is more than a scholarship. It’s a community of support.

Who is a Clark State Scholar?

To become a Scholar, students must:

  • Aspire to be first-generation college students
  • Be enrolled in grade 9-12
  • Maintain a minimum 2.75 grade point average
  • Attend at least 93 percent of school days
  • Actively participating in Scholar activities

Sign — with their parent or guardian — an agreement outlining the above expectations.

Signature Experiences

Nest Fest kicks off each academic year by welcoming Scholars, their families, mentors and support teams to Clark State’s campus. The event builds community, introduces college life and helps students feel confident and connected to Clark State from day one.

Each spring, new Scholars are formally welcomed into the program during an induction ceremony that recognizes their potential, dedication and future promise.
