Clark State Community College, The Springfield City School District, Wright State University and the Dayton Development Coalition, serving as the Regional Partner of JobsOhio, are scheduled to formalize their partnership in a ceremonial event at the former South High School in Springfield. Representatives from each founding partner will signify their intent to form a new 501 (c) (3) organization that will operate the new Global Impact STEM Academy. The event will take place on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at the Tiffany Gymnasium, South High School (700 S. Limestone Street, Springfield).
The new school has been championed by State Senator Chris Widener of the 10th Ohio District. It will be the first of its kind in Ohio and is expected to receive significant guidance and support from The Ohio State University, The Ohio Farm Bureau, Battelle Memorial Institute, and many agriscience businesses.
Agriculture is Ohio’s largest industrial sector, providing 1 of 7 Ohio jobs. This sector continues to see strong growth and this school is intended to help bolster the trained workforce for future growth.
The Ohio Revised Code established separate provisions for STEM schools in 2007. These schools use inquiry-based and project-based learning to enhance student learning particularly in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math.
