Clark State Student Receives Local Scholarship

October 10, 2013

The Springfield Human Resource Management Association (SHRMA) presented Clark State student Nancy McGlothen with the Kristen Yarger Memorial Scholarship at their monthly meeting in October. McGlothen serves as the secretary for the College's student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management. The $1000 scholarship will be used to continue her education at Clark State as a transfer student completing her bachelor's degree at Franklin University.

"Nancy has been a stand out student at Clark State. She has served on student senate, was a student ambassador and the 2013 graduation speaker," said Nina Wiley, director of retention services and student life. "She was a founding member of the student SHRM chapter and an integral part of its inception."

Clark State's SHRM chapter began in the spring of 2013 to connect students with the world's largest association devoted to professionals working in the field of human resources. The organization represents over 250,000 members in 140 countries. The Springfield chapter has been an active participant in helping the student's organize their group on campus.

The Clark State chapter will allow students the opportunity to network with HR career professionals, attend regular meetings to hear from speakers in the field, access online member-only research, webcasts, sample documents and other tools. In addition, students will be provided information about scholarship opportunities.

"We are thrilled to have this opportunity for our students to enhance their academic experience as well as their future career goals," said Lynn Geist, instructor and chapter co-advisor.
