Clark State Student Receives OADE Scholarship

March 28, 2014

Clark State Community College student Dana Richards was awarded one of only three scholarships given by the Ohio Association of Developmental Education. The $350 award is given to students taking developmental education courses for their hard work and dedication on the collegiate level.

Richards was nominated by Clark State Retention Advisor Callie Cary Devine, who was also her instructor in an introduction to college course and Daniela Craioveanu, an adjunct instructor for college preparatory pre-algebra.

"Dana not only focuses on her own success as a student, but encourages those around her to keep trying," said Callie Cary Devine. "She returned to school after many years in the field of manufacturing and faced her challenges head on through hard work and persistence."

To qualify for this scholarship, students must have completed at least one quarter or semester of college, taken at least one developmental course in math, reading or writing and maintained a minimum of a 2.5 GPA. The students also had to compose a 300-500 word essay about how developmental education has impacted their education.
