Clark State to Host Basketball Season Kick-Off Event featuring Alumni Scrimmage Game

October 7, 2022

Clark State College will kick-off the 2022-23 basketball season with an Eagle Basketball game featuring current and alumni Clark State student athletes at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 25.

Alumni students and basketball players are invited to campus to meet the college’s current basketball players and coaches. The event is part of Clark State’s continued 60th Anniversary Celebration.

“I’m excited that we are having Alumni Men’s and Women’s basketball players coming back to campus,” said Justin McCulla, director of athletics and student life at Clark State. “This event is the first we have put on. We have it set up to where we will run a game-like scrimmage for our women’s team and then our men’s team, as they play against our former players.”

McCulla said he hopes the former players will be excited about what they helped build and how the programs are changing. Those changes also included a new gymnasium floor and scoreboard.

“I look forward to our Alumni talking with our current student-athletes,” he said. “How their experience at Clark State taught them a lot about life. Our alumni get a chance to give back and share their real-world experiences.”

McCulla said the event will showcase Clark State’s basketball teams in preparation for the upcoming season. The women’s team opens the season at home against Ohio University Lancaster on Wednesday, November 2 at 6 p.m. and the men’s team will open on the road on Saturday, November 5 at Kent State Tuscarawas.

The Men of Clark State will host a tailgate Meet & Greet from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in front of the Sara T. Landess Technology and Learning Center.

Men of Clark State students can stop by to meet support staff, faculty and community leaders and to learn more about the Men of Clark State Initiative for the academic year.

Admission to the Basketball season kick-off event is free and will include a three-point, layup, and free throw contest. A scrimmage game will be held between the current basketball team and alumni.

The event will be held in the gymnasium on Clark State’s main campus, 570 East Leffel Lane, Springfield. Hotdogs, drinks, chips, cookies, popcorn and a variety of vegan options will be available to enjoy during the game.
