Students in Clark State’s Agriculture/Horticulture Technologies program defended their champion title for the second year in a row by coming in first place at the 6th Annual Turf Bowl competition held by the Ohio Turfgrass Foundation (OTF) Trade Show and Conference. Two other teams also did well and placed third and fifth in the competition.
Turf Bowl team members Phillip Stiver, Nicholas Zappe and Travis Wilt were required to take a three-hour exam testing their ability to identify turf, insects, diseases, weeds and seeds in addition to other general and mathematical questions. Testing was conducted by the Turfgrass Department of The Ohio State University.
Dr. Larry Everett and Dr. Susan Everett are professors in Clark State’s Agriculture/Horticulture Technologies program and attended the conference with the students. The program was awarded $1,000 from the Ohio Sports Turf Manager's Association in continued support of Clark State’s turf grass initiatives.
